Sebastian Vettel: We are trying to collect the Rubik’s CubeApril 29, 2019
The best result of Ferrari in Baku was the third place of Sebastian Vettel. His partner Charles LeClaire finished fifth. After the race in Scuderia summed up the fourth stage of the season.
Sebastian Vettel (3rd): “Today it was fun to fly, but not in the first segment, when I could not get the tires to work, and adhesion to asphalt was not the same as I expected. We were not fast enough, and the speed was unstable due to the fact that I damaged the tires, trying to warm them. When the tires did get warm, it was already damaged.
After the pit stop, a good pace appeared and it became more fun – I could completely control the car and attack, although this was not enough to put pressure on the opponents. On the restart after the virtual safety car, I showed my best lap and for a second I increased the lead over Max Verstappen. I think at that moment he realized that he could not attack me, so that in the last laps I slowed down a bit.
The whole team gives the maximum, so I feel confident. I believe in the team and I know that we can add. We have a good car, but we can not yet achieve from it the results that should be. It’s like a Rubik’s Cube, where all the elements need to be folded in the correct order. There are a lot of smart people in the team who can solve this puzzle in less than two minutes, but in our case there are a lot of faces in the cube. ”
Charles Leclaire (5th): “In today’s race, we achieved a maximum. After yesterday’s qualification, I started the eighth on Medium tires. In the first rounds it was a bit difficult, since everyone around us started Soft. As soon as I warmed up the tires, the clutch grew, and the situation became better – I played a few positions in the first segment.
After the pit stop, it became obvious that we could not climb higher, so we decided to take care of the tires. Then I stopped again to get a new set of rubber and earn an extra point for the best lap. In general, not the best weekend, but we have the potential. I hope we will perform better in Spain. ”
Mattia Binotto, team leader: “Today, our speed has not met expectations. Qualification is also not formed the way we wanted. On this route, much depends on the starting position, so starting from lower positions greatly complicated the task.
There was no real safety car in the race to try to gain an advantage at his expense – the situation was good for our rivals. Sebastian did well, was constantly close to the two leaders and deserved a finish on the podium.
Charles had a great race after he lost a few places at the start – Medium tires were harder to warm up than Soft, which was at the rivals.
Today, our pace was not good enough – the rivals were faster. We go home, where we will try to identify our weak points. We will continue to work and will take more aggressive decisions in order to return to the positions we deserve. ”
