The world premiere of the compact new generation SUV will be held in March this year. It is expected that SUV will be offered with gasoline and diesel engines, but it is possible that the appearance of hybrid and electric versions.
The new SsangYong Korando crossover (factory C300) will replace the model, which in Korea is called Korando C (C200), in Europe – just Korando. The exterior of the SUV brand declassified a couple of days ago: the appearance was made based on the concept of SsangYong SIV-2, presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2016. Now the company has distributed sketches of the interior of the novelty.
In the cabin Korando also traced the features of a prototype two years ago – in particular, the product crossover got almost the same front panel. However, the widescreen screen of the multimedia system was abandoned, and instead of the puck responsible for gear shifting, a traditional lever was installed. But they kept the virtual dashboard – to her, apparently, you can display the image from the rear view camera and the navigator map. To the right of the touchscreen multimedia system, as well as on the doors appeared patterned lights: there are several options for colors. Note, the flagship SUV SsangYong Rexton has neither such a backlight nor a digital dashboard.
The company does not yet disclose information about the “stuffing” of the new Korando, nor is there any information about the dimensions. The length of the SIV-2 concept is 4440 mm, the wheelbase is 2675 mm. However, some Korean media claim that the serial cross length will be close to another prototype – the electric e-SIV (4560 mm), which debuted in Geneva in 2018, is like a continuation of the SIV-2. The distance between the axes of last year’s concept is the same 2675 mm. The length of the former Korando is 4410 mm, wheelbase – 2650 mm.
SsangYong Korando-2020 tipped new engines – gasoline volume of 1.5 liters and 1.6 liters of diesel, but their performance is unknown. By the way, for the SIV-2 concept, two versions were announced – with a 135-horsepower 1.6 turbodiesel and a “soft” hybrid system. The installation of the second option includes a 150-horsepower gasoline turbo-four 1.5 GDi, a 10-kilowatt electric motor and a set of lithium-ion batteries. It is possible that the pipeline Korando will also become a hybrid. In a year or two, the crossover can also acquire a fully electric version: the e-SIV prototype is equipped with a 190-horsepower electric motor and a battery with a capacity of 61.5 kWh, a power reserve of about 450 km, although it is calculated using the obsolete NEDC cycle.
The current SsangYong Korando in Korea is available only with a 2.2 diesel engine rated at 178 hp. In other countries, the model has another diesel engine – with a volume of 2.0 liters with a return of 149 or 175 hp, plus in the export markets the SUV can be bought with a 149-horsepower 2.0 petrol engine. All engines are combined with a six-speed manual or automatic, the drive – front or full.
The world premiere of the new Korando will be held in March of this year, but has not yet named the place of the debut in the company. Most likely, the cross will be brought to the Geneva Motor Show.
