The American Blazer mid-size SUV in the stretched XL will be available for purchase in South America and China. Pre-production version of the novelty can be shown this year.
It is assumed that the Chevrolet Blazer will receive a version with three rows of seats, such a car can be presented as early as 2020. This is reported by our friends insiders from the publication GM Authority. New with an increased wheelbase will be called Blazer XL. According to the plans of the automaker, car sales are scheduled to begin in the automotive market in China and South America.
The Blazer XL is not just a stretched version of the car with an extra row of seats. Instead, the SUV will be based on a slightly modified platform – now the size of the wheelbase is 2867.66 mm, whereas in the normal version of the car, this figure is 2862.58 mm.
The total length of the SUV will grow to 5001.26 mm versus 4861.56 mm. The roofline will be flatter, and the rear doors will be larger to provide more space for rear passengers.
In China, the Blazer XL will be sold with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 240 hp. Other markets will be able to get an SUV with the existing 3.6-liter V6 with a capacity of 305 hp. Both power plants, reportedly, will work with a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
Insiders from GM Authority claim that the new Blazer XL will go into mass production in February 2020 in Shanghai, China. Pre-production version of the car can be shown until the end of the year. At the moment, there is no evidence that GM can export a stretched version of an SUV to other countries.
