
SAIC creates a premium electric brand

In the family of the Chinese auto giant SAIC, the addition is the premium brand Zhiji Auto, which will be engaged in the production of electric vehicles. The brand name translates as “smart car”, which echoes the Smart brand.
The new company has several founders: a controlling stake (54%) is held by SAIC, 18% is owned by Alibaba Group, the same stake is held by the authorities of the Shanghai Pudong district. The new brand is headquartered in Zhenjiang. The company already employs 200 specialists, and the amount of investments in this promising project amounted to 10 billion yuan.
SAIC will be responsible for the development of new premium electric cars. Alibaba Group will deal with the so-called cloud services and the necessary analytics.
The first model of the new brand will be a show car, which the Chinese media dubbed “a supercomputer on wheels.” The new car will debut at CES 2021. Recall that this annual event this time will be conducted online. For obvious reasons. The exhibition starts on January 11 and runs until the 14th.
