Rolls-Royce is preparing to introduce the first production electric carJanuary 18, 2021
The British company Rolls-Royce has registered a new name for its first electric car.
The first serial electric car of the British brand Rolls-Royce will receive the name Silent Shadow, which was recently registered by the company. The novelty may be presented as early as 2022, ahead of its main competitor from Bentley. It should be noted that Rolls-Royce has not yet made official statements on when it plans to abandon internal combustion engines.
The company’s new electric car will be related to the BMW i7, which is also due to debut next year. The Bavarian electric car will be a direct competitor to the Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan, which is expected to premiere in the coming months. According to experts, the new luxury electric car from Rolls-Royce will receive a completely original aluminum body, and the power unit of the model will be very similar to the BMW i7 and BMW iX.
At the moment, the electric car is under development and two versions are expected – with all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. The novelty should receive a battery with a capacity of over 100 kW / h, and on a single charge an electric car will be able to drive more than 500 kilometers. In terms of bodywork, the Silent Shadow could be both a traditional sedan and a coupe in the spirit of the 2016 103EX concept. It is also possible that the novelty will be implemented as a crossover.
As previously noted by Thorsten Müller-Otvos, the head of Rolls-Royce, the brand will not focus on hybrids, but will immediately offer electric cars as an alternative to cars with internal combustion engines. The first electric car could debut as early as next year.
