Robin Frains won the first ever Formula E rain game.April 28, 2019
Virgin Racing pilot Robin Frains became the eighth winner in the 2018/2019 season of Formula E, winning the race in Paris.
For the first time in the five-year history of the electric series, the race was held in rain conditions. Start participants spent behind the safety car. But this did not help to avoid chaos when the green flag was shown.
One of the first on a slippery track, the car was broken by pole position holder Oliver Rowland. On the first position came the partner of the Briton on Nissan e.Dams Sébastien Buemi. But the Swiss also did not avoid mistakes, damaging the front wing against the wall. This allowed the second leading Freins to get close to the attack distance.
The following ten laps Buemi remained ahead, but then turned into the pits due to technical problems and gave the leadership to the Dutchman. Soon the rain intensified, and the virtual machine security mode was announced.
Restart was given 23 minutes before the end of the race. Frances, unlike many colleagues like Sam Bird, Jerome d’Ambrosio, Alex Lynn, Alexander Sims, avoided mistakes in the most difficult conditions and kept the lead until the end of the race.
Andre Lotterer finished second, and Daniel Abt finished third after the D’Ambrosio accident in the last laps.
Thanks to the victory, Frances led the championship and is ahead of Lotterer by one point. António Felix da Costa and Lukas di Grassi in 11 points, Jerome d’Ambrosio in 16 points.
The next stage will be held in Monaco on May 11.
