Robert Kubica is close to a contract with Alfa RomeoDecember 25, 2019
Leaving Williams, Robert Kubica hopes to stay in Formula 1 as a development driver. He has already been negotiating such a contract with Haas F1 and Racing Point, but according to RaceFans, he may conclude an agreement with Alfa Romeo. Kubica will help the team work on a new simulator. He has vast experience in this field, because before returning to Formula 1, he worked on a Mercedes simulator.
The contract with Alfa Romeo can be concluded thanks to the manager of the Polish racer Alessandro Alunni Bravi – he is the director of the holding Islero Investments, which owns the assets of Sauber, which in turn manages the Alfa Romeo team. In addition, the Polish oil company PKN Orlen, which has long supported Robert Kubica, can play a role in the new contract.
Alfa Romeo is currently working with Shell, but this contract expires at the end of the year. Although Shell wants to continue their collaboration, this prospect raises questions about the upcoming merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, which owns Alfa Romeo, with the PSA Group.
Thus, PKN Orlen will get a chance to replace Shell and continue to work with Kubica in Formula 1. A Polish company can promote in Star Formula 1 the Star brand, which it represents in the European market. However, due to the contract with Ferrari for the supply of power plants, the team will continue to use Shell products in cars without mentioning the brand on the car.
