Rivian and Rimac help Pininfarina build a 1000-hp crossoverDecember 7, 2018
The electric coupe will compete with the Lamborghini Urus
Automobili Pininfarina, owned by the Indian group Mahindra, will launch three crossovers. The most powerful, with the factory designation PF1, will be a direct competitor to the Lamborghini Urus. It will be built on a platform developed by the American startup Rivian, and equipped with a power plant manufactured by the Croatian Rimac.
“Work on the PF1 has already begun, and now we are in the process of approving the final design,” – said Autocar India, managing director of the Mahindra & Mahindra group, quoting the design. “The Pininfarina studio will again develop the model design.”
The technology partner of Mahindra in this project can be Rimac. Croatian company is known as a manufacturer of hypercars, and as a supplier of electrical components for Porsche, Aston Martin, Koenigsegg. Automobili Pininfarina will also install its electric motors and battery packs on a 2000-strong PF0 hypercar.
In addition, the company signed an agreement with the American startup Rivian. The skateboard platform he developed will form the basis of the future crossover. According to rumors, PF1 equip a battery pack with a capacity of 135 kilowatt-hours and a power plant with four electric motors, the total capacity of which will be about 1,100 horsepower. Other features include an 800-volt charging system and 24-inch wheels.
The same platform is the basis of its own Rivian models: the R1S SUV and the R1T pickup. The platform is a ready-made set of 200-kilowatt engines, air suspension, dynamic stability control systems and batteries, which can be scaled for specific needs.
