Restomod Lancia Delta Integrale estimated in the cost of the Maybach cabrioletSeptember 4, 2018
Italian firm Automobili Amos will resume the production of the cult hot-hatch 80’s, the famous Delta Integrale. The premiere of the updated model will be held this week in Switzerland.
Concern Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has not included the brand Lancia in the program of its strategic development, voiced in early summer, and is preparing for its “canning”: this year in Italy, the release of the only remaining in the line model – the women’s hatchback Ypsilon should stop. Meanwhile in the 80’s the brand produced and sold hundreds of thousands of cars a year, most of which had a sporty image. The tone was set by the all-wheel drive Lancia Delta Integrale, which won the constructors’ cup six times in the World Rally Championship. By the 90th model acquired the status of a cult, the issue was canceled only in 1994, when Delta was morally and technically obsolete.
The next two generations of Deltas did not even come close to the success of the predecessor – neither in the market, nor on the sports routes. In the hearts of fans, it is the first Delta that is considered to be a real Lancia, and not a tracing paper from Fiat – the price of such cars on the secondary market only grows with age.
Italian entrepreneur and auto collector Eugenio Amos decided to revive the release of the legendary model, for which he founded the company named after himself – Automobili Amos. Initially, he wanted to produce in the format of restomoding only 15 exclusive Deltas, but then, realizing that the demand for the “childhood dream” greatly exceeds the offer, he decided to increase the circulation to at least twenty, and in the future up to a thousand copies! The price is about 300 thousand euros.
The premiere of the reborn Delta will take place at the Grand Basel exhibition in Switzerland, which will be held from 6 to 9 September. Details of technical modifications Amos has not yet revealed, but in early interviews he said that he intended to give the Delta oversteer instead of insufficient to make it more interesting to manage them, and to boost the engine to 330 hp.
For now, we can appreciate the external evolution of the reborn Delta. The company’s images show that the car lost its rear doors and acquired original bumpers, but the image of the classic is unmistakably unmistakable. As a donor machine Amos planned to use not the Evoluzione collection modifications, but more massive Integrale 16V, which is still a lot on the secondary market. In a body there is a lot of carbon fiber and aluminum. The interior is redesigned, but the square-socket architecture of the instrument panel is preserved!
In general, it is clear that Eugenio Amos followed in the footsteps of such firms as the American Singer (produces sports cars based on the classic Porsche 911) and the British David Brown Automotive (“saws” the classic Mini), that is, engaged in the so-called intelligent restomoding, and the spirit of the original model, but in this case serious changes are made to the design, that is, the output is a completely modern car.
