Renault Zoe became the leader in the electric car market in Europe
July 25, 2020In the ranking of sales, the compact French hatchback has surpassed the Tesla Model 3 and Volkswagen Golf.
Renault has shared data on sales of the Renault Zoe electric car in the first six months of this year. During the reporting period, European dealers of the brand were able to sell 37,540 of these cars, which was the best result among electric cars. Note that in the ranking Renault Zoe managed to outstrip the popular Tesla Model 3 sedan and the electric version of the legendary Volkswagen Golf.
Renault Zoe was not easy to achieve such success – the presentation of the car took place in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Then the model was presented as the ideal second car for the family. However, the Renault Zoe went on sale only in 2012, after which sales have steadily increased every year. 2020 was no exception, despite the coronavirus epidemic – sales growth was about 50%, and by the end of summer last year’s result may be overridden.
To date, the basic version of the Renault Zoe costs 32 thousand euros.
The growth of sales of electric cars in Europe is influenced by subsidies from the state – in France 7 thousand euros are allocated for the transition to such cars, and in Germany this figure reaches 9 thousand euros.
