Renault will prepare a budget Kwid crossoverApril 22, 2019
The French brand is increasing its activity in all emerging markets, seeking to increase its own sales. This time, the company paid attention to the Indian market, where in 2018 brand sales fell by 27% to 82,368 units.
Compact and affordable Renault Kwid crossover will be the basis for a new model. The company decided to release a more stylish budget crossover (according to preliminary information HBC) will be built on the basis of the modified CMF-A platform. The length of the SUV, most likely, will not exceed four meters. Unfortunately, the model will be presented only in the Indian market, where Renault has begun to lose its position.
In total, in 2018 Renault sold 82,368 new cars in the local market. For comparison, for the same period Hyundai sold 550,000 cars (+ 4%), and Maruti Suzuki, the local leader, sold 1,731,179 copies (+ 8%). Moreover, the negative dynamics can be traced in the first quarter of this year.
There are no details about the future novelty yet. It can be assumed that the model will be made as a compact hatchback with an increased ground clearance with imitation of off-road body kit.
A 1.0-liter subcompact turbo engine can be used under the hood. Together with him will be offered a five-speed manual transmission.
In the meantime, Renault Koleos will remain “living out its time” without a change of generations. The fate of the largest crossover in the lineup of the French concern is not defined.
