Renault tests the hot Megane RS at the NurburgringJune 21, 2018
During the Frankfurt Motor Show, which took place in September last year, the French company Renault introduced Mégane RS, the so-called “hot” version of the 5-door hatchback, under the hood of which was a powerful 280-horsepower engine. Then there was information that a hotter version would be shown – RS Trophy.
The first “spy” photos of the high-performance version of the French 5-door hatchback Mégane RS Trophy were published by foreign car publications a couple of hours ago. It is reported that the car was captured on the legendary Nürburgring race track. However, there are not so many details about the novelty so far. While we do not know how the automaker’s engineers will be able to achieve the increase in power, but we can expect the improved dynamic performance of the hatchback.
Earlier there were rumors that the Trophy version would receive a powerful engine for 300 horsepower – 20 more “horses” than the RS version, under the hood of which is a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine.
Mégane RS Trophy, caught in the lenses of journalists’ cameras, does not wear camouflage, which means that the task of this prototype is mainly the testing of the engine. Any changes in the appearance of the novelty are probably still in development. The imprinted test prototype has a low landing, and the wheels are deep in the wheel arches. Note also that Mégane RS Trophy received adjustable Öhlins dampers and Allevard composite springs. Probably, the French novelty will have a similar tuning of the suspension, as the “normal” version of the RS.
According to insiders, Renault can show the new Mégane RS Trophy later this year, and next year will show an even more powerful version of Trophy-R. It is expected that the French hatchback will compete with the charged Mercedes-AMG A35, which will also give out about 300 hp.
