Renault introduced the fifth generation compact Clio hatchback, which turned out a little smaller, but at the same time more capacious and lighter than its predecessor. The public premiere of the novelty will be held in March at the Geneva Motor Show.
The basis of the hatchback lay modernized chassis CMF-B and lightweight body, which became 22 kg lighter. The overall length of the car was 4048 mm, width – 1798 mm, and height – 1440 mm, which is 14 mm shorter, 66 mm wider and 30 mm lower than the previous generation model, respectively.
The exterior of the hatchback used the stylistic elements of the Megane family of the new generation, as well as some decisions of the Symbioz concept car, presented in 2017 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
According to Renault chief designer Lawrence van den Acker, it took about 70% of the time to create the interior when designing the fifth Clio. The hatchback will be available with a 10-inch fully digital dashboard, a new generation multimedia complex with a separate 9.3-inch touchscreen display and satellite navigation.
The use of new design seats allowed to increase the free space in the legs of the rear passengers by 26 millimeters. In addition, the hatchback got a larger glove compartment, and the volume of the luggage compartment has grown to 330-391 liters.
The basic engine of the new Renault Clio was a three-cylinder atmospheric unit with a displacement of 1 liter with a capacity of 65 and 75 horsepower. In addition, the available turbo engine of the same volume, issuing 100 or 130 horsepower. Diesel line is represented by two 1.5-liter units, developing 85 and 115 hp.
In 2020, the hatchback will have a version with a hybrid power plant, which will include a 90-horsepower gasoline engine, an electric motor with a capacity of 40 liters. with., as well as a set of batteries at 1.2 kilowatt-hours. Plus, later the new Renault Clio will have a “charged” RS-modification.
