Renault introduced two new electric cars at the car dealershipSeptember 10, 2019
The compact crossover and electric Twingo will appear in 2020.
The next two electric models from Renault will be a crossover the size of a Kadjar and an electric Twingo sistikar. They are part of the electrification strategy of the French Renault brand, which envisages the release of eight electric vehicles by 2023. Both are expected to appear in the next 18 months.
Future Product Planning Manager Ali Kassai said: “We need to add an [electric] A-segment car to meet customer needs.” This is a relatively lightweight project because Twingo was originally designed to become electric, thanks to the manufacturer’s partnership with Smart. Kassay explained that it was planned to launch it much earlier, but “there was no infrastructure” to make it reliable.
Another new electric Renault, which should be introduced to the market next year, is a crossover. Although there has not yet been official confirmation, Kassai said that electrocross will be larger than Zoe, and its cruising range exceeds 423 km, because its owners are more likely to travel outside of urban areas.
While the Citicar and the upcoming crossover will be stand-alone models, Kassai said Renault does not want to split all models into electric or internal combustion engines. “Renault will be the focus of Renault,” he said, adding that if the electric derivative worked for an existing model – such as Twingo – that would be considered.
