Renault has significantly reduced the cost of producing electric vehiclesJuly 27, 2020
The breakthrough was achieved through the development and refinement of the new CMF-EV platform. Work on it was carried out in conjunction with an alliance partner Nissan.
Renault has made an important announcement regarding the electric future of its vehicles. Renault’s electric vehicle development director said the platform’s cost is now 30% lower. The price of storage batteries has decreased by the same amount, while the cost of electric motors has decreased by 20%.
All this allows us to count on the fact that soon the French brand will offer buyers more affordable electric cars. Note the versatility of the CMF-EV platform – it can be used for both compact cars and SUVs. Renault also said that battery charging efficiency has been improved with a new temperature control algorithm.
At the same time, Renault’s business in the electric car market is already going well – the Renault Zoe compact hatchback became the best-selling electric car in Europe in the first half of the year.
The alliance’s next challenge will be to deploy the new CMF-EV platform for electric vehicles in Asia, North America and China.
Meanwhile, prices for the updated Renault Megane have become known. The car will receive two different trim levels, including the sporty RS-Line. New for the model will be the appearance of a hybrid power plant.
