Renault fears too high development costs for Formula-1

Last year, the Honda team returned to the Formula-1 leaders, and this is all thanks to the development of new powertrains. At the time, Renault fears that excessive investments in engines can financially crush competitors.

According to the Managing Director of Renault F1 Cyril Abitubula – Formula 1 is the segment of motor sport, where it is important not to make the right money, although without it it is impossible, but their amount. That is, the result on the track is directly proportional to the money spent. And a sharp jump in the Honda team is proof of this.

“Last year, it became clear that Honda was well advanced in technology.” – said the title in an interview with Autosport. “Of course, it’s too early to talk about reliability, but progress is clearly visible, and we understand that a huge amount of money was invested for this.”

All manufacturers of power units will have to try to attract additional investment. This will be required for the modernization of its engines until 2021.

Despite the fact that the money invested will pay off for Honda, but in the very near future, an increase in the required money to continue the development of engines may become unbearable for one of the engine manufacturers. And we need to do something about it, but what exactly is not being proposed yet.

We also note that before the start of the racing holidays in Japan, the Ferrari sports team presented a new look for its Formula 1. The color remained the same, but there were some changes in the logo and details.
