Renault Considers Toro Rosso’s SpeedMarch 15, 2019
In the first training of the Australian Grand Prix, the best of the Renault riders lost two-tenths of a second to the best Toro Rosso rider. The head of the French team Cyril Abiteboule dissatisfied with the speed of rivals using technical support from Red Bull Racing, and calls for measures to prevent further growth in the results of client teams.
Cyril Abiteboul: “The growth of client team results is becoming a problem. Look at Toro Rosso – they will soon become a guideline for the rest, while our team has concerns at the beginning of the season, given our position.
Toro Rosso didn’t have a technical director for much of last season, and yet they built a very competitive car – obviously what’s happening. We consider this a problem.
At one time, Haas created a precedent. I do not dispute their approach, but how in such conditions to progress to such teams as ours, like McLaren and Williams? If a manufacturer wants to come to Formula 1, then how can he fight for high places, if now it’s almost impossible to win without a client team?
These issues need to be clarified during discussions on the 2021 regulation. The time for change in 2019 and in 2020 has already passed, but I hope that everyone will understand how serious this issue is. ”
