Renault presented a fifth-generation Clio compact hatchback at the Geneva Motor Show. In Europe, car sales will start this fall. Prices for the model will be announced later. Hatchback built on a modernized chassis CMF-B.
The overall length of the car was 4048 mm, width – 1798 mm, and height – 1440 mm, which is 14 mm shorter, 66 mm wider and 30 mm lower than the model of the previous generation. Thanks to the use of new materials, the body of the novelty has become 22 pounds lighter. In this case, the French engineers managed to increase the free space for the legs of the rear passengers by 26 millimeters. To this end, new items were installed in the cabin. The luggage compartment volume has grown to 330–391 liters, this is one of the best indicators in the class.
The hatchback design got the features of the Megane family of the new generation, as well as some solutions of the Symbioz concept car, presented in 2017 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. According to one of the top managers of Renault Vincent Dubroc, one of the main reasons why customers opt for the Clio, “is exactly the design of this car.” Inside, the new 10-inch fully digital dashboard and a new generation multimedia system with a separate 9.3-inch touchscreen display appeared.
The fifth-generation Clio engine range includes a three-cylinder, 1.0-liter gasoline engine with 75 horsepower. Also, customers are offered a turbo version of this unit with a capacity of 100 and 130 horsepower. In addition, customers will be offered two 1.5-liter diesel engines. Power units is 85 and 115 horsepower.
Also, the hatchback will receive a hybrid version. However, its sales will begin only in 2020. The structure of the power plant, which is called E-tech, includes a 90 hp gasoline engine, an electric motor with a 40 hp output. and a 1.2 kW battery. Renaut promised that the new product will receive three modes of movement and the function of regenerative braking.
