Ram can electrify its pickups after Tesla and FordAugust 2, 2020
The American automaker can introduce “green” models if it sees the interest of its customers in such cars and suitable “market” conditions.
Electric pickups today are no longer anything out of the ordinary. Tesla with its angular Cybertruck, Rivian with the R1T, and Ford, which is planning to release the latest F-150 in an EV version. The appearance of this new item is expected already next year.
Now another truck manufacturer has announced the possibility of switching to electricity – this is Ram. This information is shared by The Detroit News with reference to FCA CEO Mike Manley.
According to him, the brand could switch its models to electricity if it faces an even greater decline in overall market share. At the same time, Manley stressed that pickups are a key franchise for the company.
“We are not going to sit on the sidelines if there is a danger that our position will weaken in the future,” he summed up.
We will remind, earlier in FCA declared their desire to electrify the Jeep brand: in the future, there may be hybrid versions of Wrangler, Renegade and Compass with replaceable modules. The electrification of the Ram could be put off by the release of the new Rebel TRX pickup, which will premiere this quarter. In any case, time will put everything in its place.
