In 2018, at a motor show in India, Suzuki Motor at the stand of its local subsidiary, Maruti Suzuki introduced the conceptual Future-S crossover with a very bold and funny design. Then it was announced that a serial product similar to this concept would appear in the gamut. Outside September 2019 – the first unofficial photo of the budget Suzuki crossover was published, the prototype of which was Future-S.
According to the Indian version of Autocar, the new crossover is called the Suzuki S-Presso. In the exterior of this car, nothing reminds of last year’s concept, except for the general proportions, characterized by a high body, a short hood and narrow glazing. The style of S-Presso is much more calm, it intersects with the models Alto and Brezza.
S-Presso should become the main competitor to the popular Renault Kwid in India. The length, width, height of Suzuki – 3565, 1520 and 1564 mm, respectively, the wheelbase – 2380 mm. For comparison, the Quid is 114 mm longer (3679 mm) and 59 mm wider (1579 mm), and its wheelbase is 42 mm (2422 mm) larger, but Renault is 86 mm lower (1478 mm).
According to preliminary information, S-Presso was developed on its own by the Indian branch of Suzuki, without the involvement of specialists from Japan.
Under the hood, the new three-cylinder engine K10B with a volume of 1.0 liter is installed. Its power is 68 hp, and it will work with a robotized gearbox or with a 5-speed manual transmission. If later the “warmed up” version will go into the series, then it can be equipped with a 1.0-liter “turbo-engine” Boosterjet with a capacity of 102 hp. from the Baleno RS hatchback, and in Europe the pre-reform Baleno engine develops all 112 hp, and it can work not only with a 6-speed manual gearbox, but also with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The car will be sold at a price of 350,000 rupees, Renault Kwid is cheaper – from 276,000 rupees.
The debut of Maruti Suzuki S-Presso will take place on September 30 this year.
