Tesla’s all-new Roadster electric sports car is under development and its leader claims to be stunning and capable.

The Roadster Tesla was unveiled at the motor show in Grand Basel in Switzerland in early 2019. He was first seen in public after his unexpected opening at the Tesla factory in California in November 2018.

The model that was shown is still a prototype, but is representative of the Roadster, which is scheduled to be launched in 2020. Instead of using an electrically retractable hardtop, customers will have to remove the middle part of the roof manually and put it into a dedicated compartment inside the car. Tesla plans to officially open the cab of the open-top supercar later.

The electric car maker makes bold statements about the new model; Elon Musk wants the Roadster to become the fastest car in the world. Tesla CEO says the model was built to “give a big blow to gasoline cars.” The “basic” version of the Roadster accelerates from 0-100 km per hour in 1.9 seconds – it’s faster than the BMW M4.

Power is supplied by a 200 kW battery and three electric motors. Two engines drive each of the rear wheels, while one engine drives the front wheels, making it all-wheel drive. Tesla says the new Roadster produces 10,000 Nm of “torque” and has 1,000 km of mileage. Musk did not announce the official top speed, but said it was about 400 km per hour.

The Roadster has a 2 + 2 layout, although Musk admitted that “big people” cannot fit in the back, he really boasted of the Roadster’s abundant storage location, despite its emphasis on performance.

The second-generation Roadster will begin production in 2020, pre-orders are being accepted. Prices for the base Roadster in the United States start at $ 200,000, while customers are invited to make a deposit of $ 50,000. The model of the series of founders – of which only 1,000 copies will be released – costs from $ 250,000
