The serial version of the IMx concept car, first presented at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2017, will be available soon.
Nissan unveiled the IMx concept at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2017 to showcase its intentions to introduce an electric SUV. The initial prototype was refined in October 2019 when the company introduced the Ariya concept at the same auto show in Japan with an exterior design close to production. And now became aware that the production version was patented by the brand.
Compared to the concept, the production Nissan Ariya will be distinguished by the presence of several additional small rectangles at the bottom of the triangular cutouts in the bumper. The bumper itself has also undergone a change. On the side was a cover for the charging port, slightly extended to the front of the wing, in contrast to the concept in which it was located right next to the door. For some reason, the patent images depict an electric car without side mirrors, but they will probably be installed on a production car.
Apart from the mirrors, the side profile is an accurate depiction of the 2019 concept, although the wheels are probably slightly smaller. Also noteworthy is the roof antenna and side parking sensor, which also indicates that this may well be a production model.
It looks like the Ariya will have a fully enclosed, flat bottom for better aerodynamics and therefore improved performance. To get an idea of the size of the car, the concept had a length of 4600 mm, a height of 1630 mm and a width of 1920 mm without side mirrors. The novelty is not only going to become an attractive electric SUV at an affordable price, but also must demonstrate Nissan’s new design language. Although these patent images do not show the interior, the concept had a minimalistic cabin with two digital displays and a few conventional controls.
It is expected that in 2021 Nissan will present a production version of the Ariya electric SUV with a power reserve of about 483 km. The cost of new items, according to experts, will be about $ 40,000. So the novelty will be able to compete with the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y.
