Production of Volkswagen Taos compact crossover kicks off in MexicoFebruary 11, 2021
After starting production for the local market, Volkswagen Mexico began assembling the Taos for the United States at its Puebla plant.

A rival to models such as the Kia Seltos and the Chevrolet Trailblazer, the Tiguan-based Taos crossover will be offered as standard with a digital instrument cluster and two-tone upholstery. A selection of top-of-the-line options will add options such as an 8-inch infotainment screen, ambient lighting and wireless charging for smartphones, and options include heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, heated steering wheel and a premium audio system.
The Taos is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 158 hp. and a torque of 249 Nm, which is combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive with a seven-speed DSG gearbox is available as an option.
The compact crossover will hit US dealerships by the end of the second quarter of the year. Pricing has yet to be announced, but since it is less than the Tiguan, it will cost less than $ 25,245. Finally, after starting production for the United States market, Volkswagen de Mexico will begin production in Canada in the coming weeks.
