Prodrive to build a car-amphibianAugust 7, 2018
Engineering company Prodrive, engaged in the creation of sports cars for rallying and ring racing, intends to release its own amphibious car. Inspiration for the new car will be the American Watercar Panther, which the head of the company David Richards bought for personal use. This is reported by the publication Autocar.
According to Richards, several young engineers are already working on a project of a floating machine. In addition, in the state of Prodrive, there is a specialist in boat construction, who will develop the hull. According to preliminary information, the amphibian will receive a diesel engine and can travel on water at a speed of 30 knots (55.5 kilometers per hour). The price of the car will be about 150 thousand pounds sterling.
Such a car Richards compares with flying cars, which are neither ideal vehicles, nor ideal aircraft. Amphibia, according to the engineer, will be a compromise between a real boat and a car.
In 2017, Prodrive presented a version of the hatchback Renault Megane for the World Rally Cross Championship. The car was equipped with a two-liter turbo four of its own design, the output of which was 600 horsepower and about 800 Nm of torque, and a five-speed sequential gearbox Xtrac.
