Presented electric SUV for the most extreme racing series
July 5, 2019Extreme E Championship will start from 2021
At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the launch of a new electric racing series, Extreme E, was announced. The off-road championship was organized by Alejandro Agag, the head of Formula E, and Spark Racing Technology will be building the cars. The base car for the participating teams will be the E-SUV Odyssey21.
The championship among electric SUVs will be held under the auspices of ABB FIA Formula E. The organizers intend to attract major automakers to the races, and they are going to organize races in the places most affected by climate change. Participants will perform on the same cars, but they will retain the right to make changes to the exterior body panels and choose attachments. Factory teams will be allowed to refine the power plant.
Racing SUV Odyssey21 built by Spark Racing Technology. It is based on a tubular frame made of niobium alloyed steel alloy with deformable zones and a safety cage. Odyssey21 electric motors give out 558 hp and accelerate the 1650-kilogram car to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. According to Spark Racing technical director Teofil Guzin, the SUV turned out to be more powerful and more dynamic than the rally-raid cars.
The first season of Extreme E will begin in January 2021. Arrivals will be held in the Arctic, the Himalayas, the Sahara desert, the forests of the Amazon and on an island in the Indian Ocean. SUV Odyssey21 will be released for tests in September of this year, and all 12 cars that will take part in the championship will be given to teams in March 2020.
