Presentation of the new generation Acura TLX sedanMay 29, 2020
After the update, the car changed not only externally, but also became the fastest in the history of the brand.
Acura has unveiled its updated TLX sedan. The premiere took place on Friday, May 29. Recall that the car was developed on the basis of the Type S concept car, which was introduced a year earlier. After the generation change, the Acura TLX received a new platform that makes the car’s suspension more technologically advanced – it has double wishbones at the front and a multi-link option at the rear.
The dimensions of the car have grown – the length has increased by 74 mm to 4,943 mm, and the width has increased by 56 mm and now amounts to 1,910 mm. Together with the wheelbase that has grown from 2,776 to 2,870 mm, this provides a lot of space in the cabin. The car body now consists of 56% aluminum and high strength steel, which increased the rigidity by 1.5 times. Through the use of the new platform and suspension, Acura TLX now relies on 18-inch wheels instead of 17-inch ones. For interior decoration, better materials were used.
The speedometer and tachometer decided to leave in analog form, but between them is an informational 8-inch display. But the multimedia system has a premium performance – it is slightly raised above the front panel, and its diagonal has reached 10.2 inches.
The engine range has changed completely – turbo engines have replaced atmospheric engines. The base will be a 276-horsepower turbo engine, which is familiar from the Acura RDX crossover. It combines with the latest 10-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive system. However, for a surcharge, you can get an all-wheel drive version in which 70% of the torque is transmitted to the rear axle.
However, the main highlight will be a special powerful version of the Acura TLX Type S. The car will receive a 3.0-liter V6 turbo engine. Its power is still a secret, however, the leadership said that such a modification would make the new Acura TLX the most powerful in the history of the brand. Car production will be established at the Honda plant in the United States.
Earlier it became known that Acura will stop production of the flagship sedan RLX. The reason was the low demand for this model.
