Porsche Taycan cross station wagon caught without disguiseNovember 4, 2020
A practical electric car is already ready for production, but it will be released with a delay.
Prototypes of the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo have been regularly captured by our spies over the past year and a half. Nevertheless, fresh pictures taken during tests in Germany are of particular interest: they show the car without camouflage.
Even the ridiculous painted taillights have disappeared: the lighting technology looks serial – like 99% of the entire body. Only the narrow LED inserts in the front bumper seem to be fake.
We know that the cross-wagon will technically be identical to the Taycan sedan. The latter, although it debuted only last year, has already been updated: it has received more options, including those that are bought through a software update “over the air”, and has also become a little faster.
For the Taycan Cross Turismo should offer a similar set of twin-engine power plants ranging from 530 to 761 hp. and batteries for 79.2 and 93.4 kilowatt-hours. Whether the sports “barn” will receive rear-wheel drive versions with a single electric motor – like a sedan for China – is not yet known.
Earlier it was reported that the premiere of the second representative of the Porsche Taycan family will take place before the end of 2020, but, according to new data, the start of production of the Cross Turismo had to be postponed to next year due to the coronavirus. Nevertheless, the car may be declassified in the coming weeks: it is clearly ready for presentation. Taikans are not selling as well as Porsche expected. Nevertheless, in Europe it is now the most popular model of the brand: it is taken even better than the 911. But the petrol Panamera suffered because of the electric car: the demand for it literally collapsed.
In parallel with the development of the Taycan family, which is likely to grow by other members, Porsche is preparing a much more affordable and practical electric car – the new Macan. He, too, has already been caught on tests, but the premiere is expected only in 2022.
