Porsche has ceased production of the latest diesel models: Macan S Diesel and Panamera 4S Diesel. Cayenne off-road car after the change of generation was never presented with the unit on “heavy fuel”. The decision is connected with the change in the structure of demand and the tightening of emission standards for harmful substances. This is reported by the publication Autocar.
In 2017, 97 thousand crossovers Porsche Macan was sold. Of these, only a small part is diesel cars. The share of Panamera with diesel engines in the global sales of the model was 15 percent. At the same time, 50 percent were for hybrid modifications and 35 percent for cars with gasoline engines.
Chief Executive Officer Porsche Oliver Blum in an interview with the publication said that diesel cars are not important for the company. They are popular only in Europe – their share does not exceed 15 percent. In this regard, the brand refused new investments in the development of such units and doubled the amount allocated for the electrification of the model range.
The abandonment of cars with diesel engines also became the producer’s reaction to the “diesel scandal”, in which the brands belonging to the Volkswagen group were involved.
In the summer of 2017, the authorities of Germany forced Porsche to recall 22 thousand “Cayenne” with three-liter diesel engines and “reflash” their engines. The environmental organization Deutsche Umwelthilfe demanded to recover from the mark 110 million euros.
