Porsche announces electric Taycan in powerful GT version

The press service of the German automaker has released a video that mentions an even more powerful version of the Porsche Taycan GT electric sedan. It is not yet clear what level of performance the new product can offer.

An odd piece of information is hidden in the official video from Porsche – the only mention of the Taycan GT. The mention of the car is made after Jay Kay, the famous Jamiroquai frontman, drives to the pits of the Silverstone circuit.

In particular, Kei says at the 5:58 timestamp: “Only God knows what will happen when the Taycan GT debuts.” He chuckles briefly before the video moves on to another scene, but there is no other mention of the powerful electric vehicle. It seems odd, however, that Porsche left a mention of a high-performance version of its silent sedan in this video. It is common knowledge that automakers hide information about future models in every possible way.

On the other hand, Kay could have come up with the Taycan GT himself, reflecting on Porsche’s plans, and the automaker could have deliberately left a mention in the video to confuse would-be speculators.

We know that the long-roof Taycan Cross Turismo station wagon will be introduced this year. There are rumors of a cheaper, less powerful electric car with rear-wheel drive only, but we didn’t expect Porsche to call it a “GT”.

One could guess what the Taycan GT might entail when looking at the other Porsche GT models. These vehicles are lighter, better handling and better performing. There was some buzz about Porsche giving the Taycan the Turbo name, even though it didn’t have a turbocharger. However, the name indicates its position in the Taycan family. Porsche could do the same with the GT name for the Taycan electric vehicle. But we can only guess why Porsche left a mention of such a model in the official video.

And only a couple of minutes ago it became known that a Porsche representative confirmed that Jay Kay was just joking. There are currently no plans for the Taycan GT.

Not so long ago, AutoTimesNews wrote that Porsche had postponed the release of the Taycan Cross Turismo station wagon.Contrary to forecasts, the serial Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo electric station wagon will not be released at the end of this year. This information was shared by the Bloomberg portal on Friday, August 28.
