For at least 5 years, Porsche has teased fans with information that the PDK will be installed on the 718 Cayman GT4. In 2015, Andreas Preuninger, responsible for developing the GT series, said the next-generation Cayman GT4 would receive a dual-clutch transmission as an option. We heard about it again in 2017, again in 2018, when the 718 Boxster Spyder appeared on the news, and again at the beginning of 2019. And again, information appeared that buyers of the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Boxster Spyder will be able to get a 7-speed automatic transmission PDK by the end of this year. The difference this time is that Porsche confirmed the news. The appearance of a new transmission will be the first case in the history of the brand when the top-end Cayman and Boxster will be offered to choose PDK.
According to insiders, the PDK “may ultimately enter the range” of the basic versions of the Porsche 718 in the GTS configuration. And we are talking about picking the same 4.0-liter engine, the power of which varies from 394 hp. in GTS models up to 414 hp in the Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder.
PDK has a decisive role to play in accelerating cars. So, GT4 and Spyder accelerate to 100 km / h in 4.2 seconds. With a PDK that delivers a gain in the range of 0.2 to 0.4 seconds compared to a standard six-speed manual transmission.
