Polestar 2 towing power surpasses Tesla Model 3December 23, 2019
Volvo has found an indicator that Tesla outperforms and claims that among the mid-size sedans, the Polestar 2 is a towing champion. Sales will show if this is enough for a Model 3 competitor to buy for almost $ 70,000.
The Swedish Polestar 2 is one of the most anticipated electric cars of 2020, which Volvo calls a direct competitor to the Tesla Model 3. In the first year, the so-called “launch edition” will cost € 59,900 ($ 68,200), so the Polestar 2 will have to compete with older versions car from the company Ilona Mask. And now Volvo has found an indicator in which it surpasses Model 3: it is not the dynamics and the distance of the trip, but the towing weight – 1500 kg.
“A towing pull of 1,500 kg makes the Polestar 2 a leader among compact electric vehicles. The optional folding towbar provides unprecedented flexibility for Polestar 2 owners, ”Electrek quoted the press release as saying.
Model 3 has a figure of 910 kg, but towed versions are sold only in Europe. Future Polestar 2 owners will have to pay about $ 1,200 for this option.
Earlier this month, Polestar reported on the start of pilot production at a factory in China and promises that all customers who pre-order before the New Year will receive their cars by the end of 2020.
Volvo is developing not only passenger electric cars, but also electric trucks. Next spring they will be available in six European countries.
