PSA intends to return the Peugeot brand to the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. He intends to participate in the hypercar category, for which a completely new model will be created. Unfortunately, no details have been reported yet, but some details are already known.
The car will be built on a completely new platform in a single, or in several instances. Serial production is not planned. The company is going to demonstrate in practice the capabilities of its own engineers in the creation of hybrid power plants.
PSA Motorsport Director Jean-Marc Finoet said:
“I am very excited about the prospect of my team participating in the new project. This is a new challenge, and I know that our experts will cope with it, demonstrating their will to win. “
It is worth noting that since 2020 the championship is moving to new rules, with different requirements for hypercars in the segment of the amount of harmful substances in exhaust gases. Prior to Peugeot’s announcement, the only major automakers to accept this category were Toyota and Aston Martin.
Peugeot has a rich history at Le Mans, having twice won its world famous home race at the end of the Group C era, in 1992 and 1993.
