Peugeot is preparing a new generation of the popular 2008 crossoverJanuary 23, 2019
Peugeot has one of the best-selling lines of crossovers and SUVs in Europe, but competition in this segment is increasing – almost every major automaker currently has at least three models of different sizes for sale.
Peugeot now dominates the large SUV segment, where the 5008 is selling better than the Skoda Kodiaq and Nissan X-Trail. Nevertheless, the leader in the compact SUV segment is the Renault Captur, which last year sold over 186,000 copies.
The Renault competitor in this segment is Peugeot 2008, which debuted in 2013, and it seems that the “lions” are preparing a new generation of a noticeably outdated model, which is already inferior to competitors with more efficient engines and new electronic systems.
The spy shots you see are probably proof of the work of the French brand on the next generation. And although there is no direct information that this is a 2008 model, including due to its strong camouflage, the logic and general forms of the car with the internal graphics of the rear lights are in favor of Peugeot 2008.
It is expected that the new model will have a more dramatic design, borrowed from larger versions of the 3008 and 5008, new engines and a new digital instrument panel combination. In addition, judging by the photos, the test version does not have a fuel cap, and there are no visible exhaust pipes – this could be a hybrid or even a completely electric version.
