Peugeot 508 new generation: all detailsFebruary 22, 2018
The flagship Peugeot model of the second generation will be launched in the European market this fall.
As expected, after the leaked images on the eve of the new Peugeot 508 appeared official release from the manufacturer. And yet the rumors turned out to be true: from sedan the flagship car turned into a liftback. The public premiere of the five-door liftback will be held in March this year at the Geneva Motor Show, and the European dealers will get the model in September. Will the station wagon remain – until it is announced.
The new Peugeot 508 is built on the EPM2 platform, which also underlies almost all the latest machines of the PSA Group. In this case, the rear “beam” in the 508th was replaced by a multi-link suspension. The length of the elevator is 4.75 meters, which is 80 mm less than the previous generation model. The width of the novelty is 1.84 meters (+12 mm), the height is 1.40 meters (-56 mm), the wheelbase is 2.79 meters (-27 mm) in size. The weight of the car is reduced by an average of 70 kg. The coefficient of aerodynamic resistance is 0.26. The volume of the trunk grew from 473 to 485 liters.
The external appearance of the five-door liftback is based on two concepts at once: the front part was designed in the style of the Peugeot Instinct prototype, and the stern was made in the Peugeot Exalt. The index of the new Peugeot 508 is located on the hood – a tribute to the popular in the 1970s model Peugeot 504. Also, the elevator was frameless doors. The novelty has three versions: standard, GT Line and GT. The last two differ in decor (for example, a grille with a different pattern).
The interior is made in the original concept of the i-Cockpit brand: a small steering wheel over which a digital “assembly” rises. True, the now fashionable “soaring” touch screen multimedia system, the sedan did not get – a 10-inch screen is built into the front panel.
Peugeot 508 Europeans will be offered a 1.6 PureTech gasoline turbocharter with 180 or 225 hp. (the most powerful option is provided only for the GT version), as well as with 1.5 BlueHDi (130 hp) and 2.0 BlueHDi (160 or 180 hp) diesels. All engines are combined with a new eight-band “automatic” and only for a basic diesel engine is provided for a six-speed manual transmissio. In the next year, a hybrid modification will appear on the market, but the company does not disclose details about it yet. Note that the predecessor in the Europe is equipped with a petrol 4-cylinder 1.6 THP (165 hp) with diesel 1.6 BlueHDi (120 hp) and 2.0 BlueHDi (150 or 180 hp), transmission – 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic.
The list of equipment for the new Peugeot 508 may include: a night vision system, a Focal audio system, front seats with electric adjustments and massage function, panoramic roof, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane and traffic recognition, parking assistant.
In the release, the French compare their novelty with the Audi A5 Sportback, however, the 508 will still compete with the more affordable models of the D-segment: Volkswagen Arteon, Kia Optima, Renault Talisman, Opel Insignia. By the way, in Europe, the case of the Peugeot 508 first generation is not so bad. According to the CarSalesBase portal, last year 22 842 cars of the French brand were sold in the Old World – this is less than the Talisman (32,163 units), but more than that of Optima (16,152 pieces).
