The novelty of the French brand has got a more practical five-door modification.

The public premiere of the Peugeot 508 new generation, which replaced the generation became a lift, was held in early spring this year as part of the Geneva Motor Show. The “refreshed” Frenchman has acquired a spectacular appearance and will try to compete with Volkswagen Arteon.

A good trump in the fight against competitors will be a new version of the 508 SW, which, despite the availability of roof rails, is almost equal in height to the usual 508-meter – 1.42 meters, which is 6 cm less than the predecessor and 2 cm more than elevator. The length of the novelty is 4.78 meters (-5 and +3 cm, respectively).

In terms of design, the 508 and 508 SW are identical, except for the stern. Although, even if you look at the car from behind, then the difference between the elevator and the universal you begin to notice only above the level of the lamps. The station wagon received a decorative black bar with the inscription Peugeot.

Access to the trunk is facilitated – the height of the load at the station wagon is reduced by 6 cm compared to the elevator – 63.5 cm from the ground, and the opening is 2.4 cm wider. In addition, for the fifth door, an electric drive is optionally available, or an opening system without hands. The volume is 530 liters, but with the rear seats folded (in a flat horizontal surface), it increases to 1,780 liters. The “threshold” of the boot compartment is finished with stainless steel to avoid wear and tear.

Among the competitors of Peugeot are: Kia Optima Sportwagon with a trunk 530/1 686 liters, Opel Insignia Sports Tourer (520/1 638), Renault Talisman (572/1 681), Volkswagen Passat Varian (650/1 780), Skoda Superb Combi (620/1 900) and others.

Universal Peugeot 508 SW shares with liftbekom 508 platform EMP2, so that in technical terms the models are identical. The new range includes a pair of PureTech gasoline engines of 1.6 liters capacity of 180 and 225 hp. in combination with an eight-speed automatic transmission, as well as three diesel engines BlueHDi: 1.5 liters with a capacity of 130 hp. in combination with a six-speed “mechanics” or an eight-speed “automatic” and 2.0 liters with a power of 160 or 180 hp, combined exclusively with the 8AKP.

The public premiere of the novelty will be held at the Paris Motor Show. The start of sales of the Peugeot 508 SW in Europe is scheduled for January 2019, and global sales in the first half of next year.
