Opel will release 8 new models in the next two yearsNovember 18, 2018
The company Opel announced the start of updating its model range, which should receive eight new and updated cars in the next two years, and the first of them will be the electric Corsa EV and the hybrid crossover Grandland X PHEV.
eCorsa will retain the same concept of a small car, but, probably, after going under the management of the French PSA Group, it will receive the same platform as the Peugeot 208. It is expected that these two cars will also receive a lot of common parts to minimize the cost of the product.
On the other hand, the Grandland X crossover will be the first rechargeable hybrid in the Opel lineup. His appearance is expected in 2019, and he will probably get the same powerplant as the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid 4, presented at the Paris Motor Show in October.
We are talking about a 1.6-liter gasoline engine, working in tandem with two electric motors, with a total capacity of 296 hp. One of the electrical installations will transmit the drive to the rear wheels, and the second will be installed on the front axle. The engine must work with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
In this configuration, the Peugeot 3008 will be able to accelerate to 100 km / h in 6.5 seconds, and its 13.2 kW battery will help the car to travel up to 50 kilometers only by electric.
In addition, Opel plans to electrify two more models by 2020, and the assembly of the Opel Grandland X for the African market will begin at the new plant in Namibia, expanding its activities beyond the European markets.
