Opel showed a new face of their modelsAugust 1, 2018
The show car was called GT X Experimental, a full-fledged premiere of the novelty will be held later this year. The prototype became the symbol of the transition of Opel and Vauxhall under the wing of the PSA Group (the French bought these brands from General Motors a year ago), it demonstrates a new design concept – all future models of German and British brands will have similar faces.
Judging by the outlines, a hatchback is hidden under the coverlet. And given that the first model Opel with a new appearance will be Corsa next generation, we can assume that GT X Experimental is a harbinger of this compact. The concept lacks a traditional radiator grille – a sign that we have an electric car. In this case, the prototype received an unpainted bumper – a clear hint of crossovers. LED headlamps and the grille of GT X Experimental are merged together: in Opel this design decision is compared to the windscreen of a motorcycle helmet, hence the name – Vizor.
As previously reported, the new Corsa will have a fully electric version, however, this hatch will go on sale in 2020. Corsa with ICE will enter the market earlier – in 2019, it is expected that the model will be built on the modular platform of the PSA concern, which will also form the basis of the next Peugeot 208.
Recall, for the six months of 2018, Opel / Vauxhall brought PSA Group profit of 502 million euros. But the last time Opel was profitable almost twenty years ago – in 1999. Although the current growth was achieved through austerity: the leadership of the PSA dismissed about 3,700 people from the state of Opel, in addition, the concern is looking for a buyer at the research center of the German brand, which now employs approximately 4,000 people.
