One of the weirdest cars in Japan based on Toyota RAV4 was revealed on the InternetJuly 19, 2021
Tuning company Mitsuoka will build just 200 copies of its Buddy car over the next two years.
One of the most bizarre cars in recent memory is the Mitsuoka Buddy. The car was built on the basis of the Toyota RAV4 crossover. Shortly after the start of production of this new YouTube item, her review of the exterior and interior of Buddy appeared.
In designing Buddy, Mitsuoka was inspired by the American SUVs of yesteryear. For example, the front end is reminiscent of a 1990s Chevrolet Tahoe due to the large chrome grille and square headlights. The SUV also features unique retro-styled dashboards and wheels.
Whimsical modifications continue to the rear, where there is a new tailgate, chrome bumper and distinctive taillights.
Considering the Buddy is based on the Toyota RAV4, it’s no surprise that the interior is very familiar. The dashboard, instrument cluster, center console, infotainment screen, and audio / HVAC controls are unchanged. At the same time, the tuner re-trimmed most of the interior with new black leather with white contrasting stitching and piping.
In the home market, the first batch of these crossovers sold 200 units in just four days. Drivers could choose from either a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with 168 hp or a 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain with 175 hp. The tuner said it plans to deliver the first 200 units over the next two years, before starting a second production run in 2023.
