On tests seen camouflaged prototype crossover Citroen C4

The photos show a test prototype of the French crossover, which in its new version will look less shocking. The debut of the updated Citroën C4 can be expected at the end of this year as a crossover 2021 model year.

The Citroën C4 Cactus was a rather strange car when it appeared in 2014. Its unusual design with huge air intakes and strange proportions made it possible to distinguish this crossover from its competitors. However, its quirkiness disappeared with the 2018 update, and now that Citroën is preparing to introduce a new version of this model, it seems that the engineers decided to further reduce the level of shocking for the C4 crossover. And yes, the car will not be called the C4 Cactus.

A new batch of “spy” photographs shows camouflaged prototypes of new items on a frozen Scandinavian lake. Most of the design of the car remains hidden.

This is not the first time we have seen the next generation Citroën C4 test samples. Previous shots from the tests of the car were made back in January of this year – it was then that we first saw a strongly disguised prototype of the crossover.

The new C4 is based on the CMP platform from the PSA Group, on which Peugeot 2008 is built. Both should have similar interiors.

The architecture can support various powertrains – gasoline, diesel, hybrid and fully electric. It is known that the new Citroën C4 will receive a 1.2-liter turbocharged PureTech engine. On one early test car that foreign journalists noticed, there was a warning sign saying that there was a lithium-ion battery inside the car, hinting at some degree of electrification. The complete absence of exhaust pipes hints at this. We can see the exhaust pipes on the latest test car in a new series of photographs.
