On tests, a prototype of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is seen.July 2, 2019
Journalists of foreign specialized publications have published photos from the tests of the big coupe BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, which should make a worthy competition to a similar model from Mercedes – this is a CLA.
Crossovers and SUVs of all shapes and sizes may have conquered the automotive world, but sedans are still relevant for a significant segment of the market. That’s why the premium Mercedes decided to add an A-class sedan to its model range, and also upgrade the CLA 4-door coupe as its more attractive counterpart. For some countries, BMW offered the 1st Series sedan, and the new global sedan should be introduced before the end of the year.
We’re talking about the 2 Series Gran Coupe, which, as we know, will debut this November at the Los Angeles Auto Show. In the meantime, the prototypes of this car are being tested at the Nürburgring racetrack – journalists who essentially live on this track have managed to capture several disguised test cars at once.
Cars received serial body, but keep in mind that at this stage, this same body is covered with additional false panels in order to hide the final exterior design. We hope that for this reason the boot lid seems to be sitting so unusually high that, frankly speaking, it does not look very beautiful.
While the next generation coupe 2 series will retain the rear-wheel drive layout, the more practical version of the Gran Coupe will switch to the front-wheel drive platform, as was shown in the recently introduced hatchback 1 series. In fact, most of the details will be taken from the hatchback.
According to rumors, the M235i version will get a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine at 302 horsepower (450 Nm). In the future, the 2nd Gran Gran Coupe can get a more powerful version with a capacity of about 400 hp.
