On Mercedes-Benz Actros will install cameras instead of side mirrorsMarch 25, 2020
The new version of the popular truck will receive a modification using the MirrorCam camera system.
Representatives of the German company Mercedes-Benz shared some data on the development of the new Actros truck. The main innovation will be the use of a camera system instead of the classic rear-view mirrors. They will be attached to the cab frame and will be connected to the information display inside. According to the developers, such a system has several advantages. The main feature is improved visibility.
It’s no secret that the side mirrors in trucks take up a lot of space near the front pillars, which makes it difficult to see, especially at difficult junctions. Also, such a system is designed to improve the aerodynamics of the car, which is important when cornering at full load.
Also, the cameras are installed in such a way that when turning, the driver can see the farthest part of the trailer – there are less blind spots.
Another undeniable advantage is the image quality. In difficult weather conditions, mirrors can fog up, and when it rains, water accumulates on them, interfering with the view. The cameras will be protected by a small dome, and also have a heating function at temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius. Of course, it will take some time to adapt to the use of the new product, but many are already looking forward to its entry into the market.
