Officially. Peugeot ceases production of the 308 GT but leaves the GTi.April 15, 2019
Peugeot decided to make some adjustments to its product line of the model 308 GT with gasoline engines tuned for high performance – the French brand conveyor will completely leave the GT model.
The information was confirmed by Rodica Ionescu, who is the public relations manager at Trust Motors, who in turn is the official importer of Peugeot, Citroen and DS cars in Romania. According to her, the decision was made to improve the rate of corporate CO2 emissions.
As a result, the company will refuse to release the model 308 GT, but contrary to fears, it will retain a more powerful version of the Peugeot 308 GTi, although with some changes, and the production of the model will be suspended for two months from July to August.
During this time, the company will move from the PureTech 263 Euro 6.d-temp engine to the PureTech 263 Euro 6.d-temp + EVAP engine, which will take into account the evaporation of fuel in the tank and its supply pipe, and thus remove this factor due to new environmental regulations from September 1, 2019.
Recall, the 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine 308 GTi has already undergone a certain modernization last year to meet the new environmental standards – because of this, its capacity has decreased from 266 to 259 horsepower.
In any case, the current generation 308 has been in production for six years, which means that a new generation of hatchback is not far off – according to some information, the debut of the new 308 will take place next year. As for the GTi version, it will still be available for some time, while its successor will receive a new electrified power plant for an even greater reduction in CO2 emissions.
