Norris: We managed to make progressMarch 1, 2019
On Thursday in Barcelona, Lando Norris scored the third result, but drove a shorter distance than planned in McLaren. Technical problems prevented – presumably with the exhaust system.
Lando Norris (3rd): “The morning session went well, we managed to make some progress compared with the previous days and a little better understand the behavior of the machine. I worked on short series with different settings, which allowed me to gather more information about the behavior of the car with different amounts of fuel on different rubber compounds. Then we focused on long series with hard tires and were able to improve the balance.
Now I’m better prepared for the stage in Australia than at the beginning of the tests, especially in the long run. Yes, there is still a lot of work ahead, but in general, I am satisfied with the basic level of the machine and the chosen direction of development. The next two weeks I plan to spend on the basis of McLaren, together with the team preparing for the stage in Melbourne “.
Gilles de Ferrand, sports director: “It’s not an easy day, we again had to deal with problems, because of which we drove less laps than we expected. However, the team continued to progress and gained valuable knowledge that we apply in Australia and the next races.
Next time we will see Lando Norris on the track in the first Friday training session in Melbourne, which will be his official debut in the Formula 1 Grand Prix. It will be an exciting moment for McLaren employees and fans – we are waiting for him with a special look! ”
