The Japanese concern announced its intention to begin mass production of cars, in the body of which, including external panels, high-strength steel will be used. The first model will be the updated Infiniti QX50 crossover.

The production of a new crossover Infiniti QX50 will begin soon. But in addition to the new design and equipment, the car will surprise the car enthusiasts with innovations in the production process. The company Nissan for the first time decided to use a new alloy of high-strength steel for the production of the body. So, the new material has 980 MPa of tensile strength.

Later, the new production technology will spread to other models of the company. However, it is not yet reported how much new technology can affect the cost of future cars. Most likely, the innovation will only concern the upper segment of the model line.

A new type of material has a high degree of resistance to deformation, and also increased stiffness will allow creating a more interesting car design. And the mass and aerodynamic drag of cars will decrease.

The company separately emphasizes that a new body type with less weight and better aerodynamics allows cars to use fuel more economically, which significantly reduces the amount of emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere. And the increased rigidity of the body provides better safety for the driver and passengers.

The application of the new steel is in line with Nissan’s new strategy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 40% by 2022. So, in the foreseeable future, the Japanese company plans to increase the amount of steel in car bodies up to 25% of the total mass.

In addition, the new steel is suitable for cold pressing technology, which will also ensure more economical production. To reduce the carbon dioxide content Nissan invests large sums in the development of electric cars and hybrid cars.

Meanwhile, the information on the release of the third generation of the Nissan Qashqai crossover in 2020 was officially confirmed. And the peculiarity of the novelty will be several variants of the hybrid installation.
