Nissan Ariya could become one of the models in the Infiniti model rangeDecember 11, 2019
It became known that Nissan originally planned to introduce the Ariya electric crossover as an Infiniti model, since the brand was considered more suitable for the expected cost of Ariya in Europe. So, prices for an electric crossover, which is positioned in the premium segment, should vary in the range from 50,000 to 70,000 euros. This was reported by Automotive News Europe.
However, after the Infiniti brand was withdrawn from the Western European market, the company decided to introduce Ariya in the Nissan lineup. According to Automotive News Europe, in 2019 Nissan’s sales in Europe will drop by 25%, and Nissan is likely to rely heavily on its alliance partner Renault. The French company will help develop a common platform for the production version of Ariya.
Judging by the concept, the dimensions of the Ariya will be similar to the Nissan Rogue, however, the new model is not a replacement for this crossover. The prices for the electric model will significantly exceed the prices for Rogue, so that the models will not compete in the line.
It should be noted that Nissan, which for many years remained the undisputed leader in the segment of electric models, began to lose ground. So, Nissan Ariya will have to compete with numerous rivals. These include the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Volkswagen ID.4 and Mazda MX-30.
However, the new CEO Makoto Uchida wants Nissan electric cars to get modern features, a wide range and higher prices, which would bring greater profit to the manufacturer. For this reason, the emphasis will be shifted from electric vehicle production to their profitability. Uchida hopes Nissan will regain leadership in electric vehicles. So, one of the goals has already been set – by 2022, “electrified” models should account for 42% of European sales.
