Despite the fact that many experts were skeptical about the possibility of serial production of electric car Nio ES8 – it is already on the conveyor. A new crossover with a fully electric installation is designed to push the leadership of Tesla in the Chinese market.

Completely electric crossover Nio ES8 one of the few grew from the concept into a production car. The company Nio announced the launch of series production.

Recall that the Chinese manufacturer has grown from one of many Chinese startups NextEV. At that time, many companies were created that wanted to squeeze the American manufacturer Tesla in the segment of electric cars. However, most companies could not go beyond the concepts and preliminary plans.

The company Nio went through the whole process before the creation of the first production car, and is ready to make a serious competition for Tesla in China. The new crossover has already received the title of killer Model X, and is preparing for a sufficiently high demand.

Since the winter, pre-order was opened, but the number of waiting owners is not yet reported. For them, a special application was created, through which you can track the status of your car.

Nio ES8 is a full-size five-meter SUV with seven-seater saloon. The car is equipped with two electric motors with a total capacity of about 650 horsepower and 840 Nm of torque. As a power source, a battery of 70 kWh is used, but its feature is the ability to quickly replace the already charged battery. The power reserve in the mixed mode is 350 km.

According to the automaker, all cars can be equipped with an automatic piloting system. Also in the cabin is available a separate climate control, a fully digital instrument panel, a large display on the center console, and a NOMI assistant. The latter is presented as a creature on the front panel, recognizing voice commands, and capable of self-learning.

It is also worth noting that the cars will be produced at the joint venture NIO and JAC, which was built specifically for these purposes. Now production is just getting better, and by the end of the month it is planned to produce about 550 cars. For July the company promises to release another 1,000 copies, and full-scale production will begin only in September.

The capacity of the new plant is designed for 100,000 cars per year. The cost of electric crossover is completely undemocratic and is in the range of $ 70,000 to $ 85,000. But considering the cost of Tesla cars in China from 120,000 dollars – the cost is quite competitive.

Meanwhile, Matt Tsien, the head of the Chinese division of GM, talked about the company’s plans for the electric car market. They are planned to be issued in stages, and do not delay with production
