Nick Catsburg won two poles in three hours at the WTCR stage in SlovakiaMay 11, 2019
The day qualification of the WTCR stage in Slovakiaking ended with almost the same result as the morning one – the first row of the grid in the final race of the weekend will be taken by the Hyundai racers Nick Katsburg and Norbert Michelis, and the third will be Ma Qing Hua at Alfa Romeo, next to which will start Daniel Haglof.
There was a little rain between sessions, and the first two qualification segments were held on a drying track. The main surprise was the failure of Gabriel Tarquini, who showed only the 16th time and stopped the fight after only 20 minutes.
“I miscalculated with tactics. The first qualification was not the best way, and in the second I decided not to put new tires on a decisive attempt, but I miscalculated. Not the best day, but it’s a race, ”explained upset Tarquini on Eurosport.
Four fastest riders on the results of the first qualification and Esteban Gerrieri on Honda, which was only the eighth in the morning, went to Superpool. Argentine failed to intervene in the fight for pole because of an error in the last turn.
But Nick Catsburg drove the circle only two tenths slower than his best morning attempt, and that was enough, despite the loss of time relative to Norby in the last sector. Thus, the Dutchman not only interrupted his series without poles in World Touring, which lasted from the WTCC race in Argentina in 2017, but also won the second qualification for three hours.
