An inexpensive coupe-shaped crossover of the German brand was created in Brazil. They are going to bring it to the European market.

New Volkswagen brand created in Brazil. A sketch of the car, developed by the head of the VW design studio in South America, Jose Carlos Pavon, was distributed on the Internet at the end of this summer. According to assumptions, this is how the brand indicated the replenishment of the lineup with another cross.

After a couple of days, the German concern confirmed plans for the production of a compact SUV with a coupe-shaped body, the debut cross-country sketches appeared in the same period. The car is already undergoing tests on Brazilian roads – it again fell into the lenses of photo spies.

Fresh photos of compact cross appeared on the autossegredos web portal. The car is still quite carefully camouflaged, the photo shows the “feed” of the cross, there is also a “blurry” profile frame. Optics are partially visible in the images: it is noticeable that the lights “creep” onto the trunk door.

At the moment, there is no information regarding the technical characteristics of the upcoming new German brand. It is assumed that the basis of the crossover will lie on the MQB A0 platform. It is expected that the cross-coupe will borrow a line of engines from the Polo hatchback. In Brazil, for example, it is available with atmospheric engines 1.0 MPI (75 hp on gasoline and 84 hp on ethanol) and 1.6 MSI (110 or 117 hp respectively), and also with a liter “turbo-engine” TSI (116 or 128 hp).

Together with the engines, a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission works. Surely, the new coupe-shaped cross VW will not receive all-wheel drive.

So far, the German brand has not given a name to the new crossover and is called it “New Urban Coupe”. At the same time, Volkswagen previously registered the name T-Sport, we can assume that it is for this model. The car will begin to produce in Brazil, at the enterprise in São Bernardo do Campo (state of São Paulo). Most likely, the release of new items will start in May next year, and it will go on sale in the second half of the same year.

Initially, the car was focused only on developing countries, in other words, on the markets of South America, Asia and Africa. However, apparently, the leadership of the German brand decided that the crossover could attract the attention of European buyers. For the European market, compact cross will be produced in Spain, and sales will probably start no earlier than 2021. At the same time, it is still unknown where the new model will be supplied to other countries.

In addition, earlier it became known that the updated Volkswagen Passat was cheaper than its predecessor. The German brand revealed the details of trim levels and a list of additional options for the American version.
