New Volkswagen Passat: first imagesDecember 12, 2018
The new Volkswagen Passat will keep the platform of the predecessor, but it will change externally.
Volkswagen showed the first images of the new generation Passat sedan, which will be released in the US market early next year. The model received a slightly more aggressive, but still recognizable appearance, with elements of design in the style of Arteon and the new Jetta, and technically remained at the level of its predecessor.
Western journalists who have traveled on the pre-production versions of the new Volkswagen Passat report that the sedan has a completely new body. Shared with the previous generation machine, only the roof remained. The appearance of the Passat is aligned with the new corporate identity: with the increased radiator grill, characteristic of the latest flagship models, with horizontal “ribs”, more expressive headlights and narrow taillights.
Technically, the model differs little from the current generation. The platform and the engine remained the same – a 2.0-liter “turbo-five” with a capacity of 176 forces and 250 Nm of torque. Due to the refusal to switch to the MQB modular architecture, the Passat will not have hybrid modifications or even a digital dashboard. The list of equipment includes LED optics, an automatic braking system, “multimedia” with an 8-inch display and adaptive cruise control.
