New Volkswagen Golf 8 debuts todayOctober 24, 2019
The German company today will present to the world public its long-awaited novelty.
Official photos showing the new Volkswagen Golf 8 “leaked” to the Internet a few hours before the official premiere. Today, the German brand will hold a two-hour event, which will be held in the heart of the German concern – at the Autostadt factory, located near the company in Wolfsburg.
Recall that the Golf hatchback is available almost all over the world since its launch in 1974, and over this period more than 35 million copies of the model have been sold. The eighth generation of the model should become the most technological version, having received a number of serious changes.
Thanks to spy shots and several teasers, it is known that the hatchback will receive a high-tech interior. This will radically change the appearance of the dashboard, getting rid of many traditional controls, as they will be built into the central display. Physical dials are likely to disappear, as even the base model will have a fully digital panel.
The updated MQB platform will come with a range of more fuel-efficient engines using a mild hybrid system in the case of gasoline units, nicknamed “eTSI”. There will also be a cleaner diesel and a couple of hybrid versions to further expand the Golf customer base. Of course, VW will release a modification of the GTI, which will be released in 2020.
Today, only a hatchback will be presented, and only in a five-door form, as VW confirmed earlier this week that it plans to include a three-door model due to low demand. It is not clear when the station wagon will be introduced, but it is likely that it will debut in time for the 2020 Geneva Motor Show in March next year.
